I had been to Kashmir in 2010, and I photographed a few kids up in the mountains. Life in the mountains is tough, and none of the kids I met, got an opportunity to goto a school. They were very curious and wanted to know where I came from and why was I taking photographs. This is the 1st photo I clicked khurafati.deviantart.com/art/A… and when I showed her the picture, this was the reaction khurafati.deviantart.com/art/G…  That the probably the 1st time she saw her photograph, all her friends were jumping all around me to get their pictures clicked! I promised myself, that someday I would do something for the education of these wonderful kids in Kashmir. I started researching and came across this school in Breswana. Their Facebook page www.facebook.com/HajiPublicSch… I was in touch with the
Director of the school for all these years, but I could never save much to make it back to the mountains. Recently I saw a post for a volunteer opening on their page and immediately got in touch with them. After a skype call I was selected. I will be there from August till October end.

Looking forward to finally doing my bit and share my knowledge with the kids :)

2013 updates!

Here is a quick update of what I have been doing lately...

I made 3 lights which I can use for my travel portraiture. I've shot pictures with it, and still playing around with it. This is the 1st pic I made with one of the light : khurafati.deviantart.com/art/B…  I am still working on the colour temperature issues and also figuring out the best possible natural light where it blends in perfectly.

Earlier this year, I went to Kolkata to shoot a concept. But things didn't work out, so I experimented with a texture I wanted to use for the concept: a mosquito net. I wanted to see how the light diffuses when it passes through a layer/ layers of the net. Also how a subject looks when it is behind a layer/ layers of the net. It was a fun and interesting exercise. I noticed sometimes the light acts strange at some folds of the material, so its better to get everything right while you are shooting. With the smooth folds and porous textures in the foreground its very difficult or at times impossible to fix anything in the background.
Have a look at the images from that shoot here : khurafati.deviantart.com/galle…
Do let me know what you feel about the pictures :)

journey so far

i finally sat down to write this journal! very posetive and excited.i click on the new journal entry and the 1st thing i see is TITLE.and i jst felt like banging my head on the keyboard :P(am very bad at titles)
Getting back to the point and on a serious note i would to like to share a few things with people who are new to photography.i am a self taught photograher and i had no one to guide me.as a beginner there are loads of doubts.luckily i have always looked upto national geographic's photographs, which is some serious camera work with natural available light.so i knew there was no photoshop trick there and evrything is possible with the equipment i have and i just have to play around, experiment and discover the right technique! i started reading about camera techniques and browse through thousands of pictures daily.i made it a daily habit.gradually i started STUDYING the pictures.what is it in a picture that makes it so striking.what are the other elements in the pictures.are they complementing it or distracting.what is it that makes one picture better than the other with the same subject.and this only comes with time.the debate trains our eyes.my friends have played a very important in my learning process.right from sharing resources, feedbacks, suggestions and most importantly SUPPORT :D all i am saying is guys if you dont have anyone to guide you then read shitload of stuffs on whatever you are doing be it graphics, animation, illustration, photography. all my frnds are self taught and am quite sure that they all have learnt it in quite the sameway. be receptive, absorb as much knowledge as you can! am sure you 'll see posetive results.
